The ÍR men's football team, commonly known as ÍR is the men's football department of Íþróttafélag Reykjavíkur. It is based in Reykjavík, Iceland and currently plays in 2. deild karla. Although football was one of the first sports practiced at Íþróttafélag Reykjavíkur, it's football department was not formally founded until 7 March 1939. In 1943, Guðmundur S. Ungmennafélagið Afturelding, commonly known as Afturelding or UMFA, is an Icelandic multi-sports club from the town of Mosfellsbær located just north of the capital Reykjavík. The club was founded in 1909 and today is primarily known for its handball, football and volleyball teams.

1. deild karla, known as Inkasso-deild karla (The Inkasso League) for sponsorship reasons, is a football league in Iceland. It is the second highest professional level in the Icelandic football league system. The league was founded in 1955 and current champions are ÍA. The league was expanded to 12 teams for the 2007 season, after having only 10 teams for many years. Since 2008 the top three divisions have all had 12 teams.
