A penalty shootout win gave KalPa a huge win over Liiga leaders Tappara to keep them in the hunt for fourth place in the table, which is now occupied by JYP following their win at Vaasan Sport, while Ilves beat TPS to maintain a four-horse race.

[p]Knowing [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/jyp-jyvaskyla/YVjXBEzi/"]JYP[/a], [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/lukko-rauman/hdqQJQgc/"]Lukko[/a] and [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/ilves-tampere/Oh5uGzDT/"]Ilves[/a] would end the night with a game in hand over them, the pressure was on [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/kalpa-kuopio/tMuMK6vi/"]KalPa[/a] to go to the league leaders and get something, only for them to give away the first two penalties of the game and concede on both resulting powerplays.[/p][p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/simontaival-kasper/AoVpUCbM/"]Kasper Simontaival[/a] gave [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/tappara/llrWVOwG/"]Tappara[/a] the lead in the sixth minute after [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/westerlund-filip/nkFgJt7d/"]Filip Westerlund[/a] was called for holding, and when [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/ruotsalainen-ville/CSBis6gn/"]Ville Ruotsalainen[/a] was punished for high sticking, [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/keskinen-oiva/xMC9phOq/"]Oiva Keskinen[/a] used the man advantage to double the hosts' lead.[/p][p]But with a powerplay of their own, KalPa gave themselves hope in the final minute of the first period through [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/kapanen-konsta/Yq9ApiFh/"]Konsta Kapanen[/a], who then drew the Kuopio side level with the only goal of the second 20 minutes.[/p][p]The turnaround was complete with less than four minutes of regulation time to play as [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/kanak-lukas/MLdqfD83/"]Lukas Kanak[/a] struck what KalPa hoped would be the winner, only for Tappara to tie things up again in the penultimate minute, courtesy of [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/matinmikko-aleksi/j7cwkcxi/"]Aleksi Matinmikko[/a].[/p][p]No winner in overtime saw the sides head into a shootout, and with the scores 1-1 ahead of KalPa's third attempt, Kapanen stepped up and slotted home his third goal of the match to secure a [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/hockey/kalpa-tMuMK6vi/tappara-llrWVOwG/?mid=fkOibKiK"]4-3[/a] victory.[/p][embed guid="e8d54df4-a87e-4364-998e-59421f2b2f9a" url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UElo6Tu_nvU" social-type="youtube" /][p]KalPa draw level with Lukko on 100 points, but while the Rauma side weren't in action today, they were knocked out of fourth spot by JYP, who went two points clear by cruising [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/hockey/jyp-YVjXBEzi/vaasan-sport-Qqy8aCTd/?mid=WGxcxwV0"]3-0[/a] past hapless [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/vaasan-sport/Qqy8aCTd/"]Vaasan Sport[/a] thanks to a [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/lassila-jere/IPZcz9be/"]Jere Lassila[/a] hat-trick and 17 saves from [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/salminen-oskari/IoLse2no/"]Oskari Salminen[/a].[/p][p]Four points down on JYP and therefore still very much in the race are Ilves, who needed a pair of empty-netters to finally see off [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/tps-turku/Wd5rVrgM/"]TPS Turku[/a] [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/hockey/ilves-Oh5uGzDT/tps-turku-Wd5rVrgM/?mid=SrW5zHaD"]4-1[/a], but nonetheless secure a first three-point win in four games, as TPS fell to a fourth consecutive loss.[/p][embed guid="0b964b70-e924-4536-aaac-d2214f49a19d" url="https://x.com/smliiga/status/2030338417226055859" social-type="twitter" /][p]The gap between TPS in 13th and the top 12 has widened to four points, as [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/hameenlinna/zV5a4drH/"]Hameenlinna[/a] came from 2-0 down to win [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/hockey/hameenlinna-zV5a4drH/karpat-fPJxL2x2/?mid=WbRMzQgd"]6-3[/a] at home to [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/karpat-oulu/fPJxL2x2/"]Karpat[/a], all but ending the Oulu side's hopes of reaching the postseason, as two [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/wright-cameron/UutRvV8E/"]Cameron Wright[/a] strikes helped seal a third win on the bounce for HPK.[/p][p]Hameenlinna remain in 12th, however, as [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/ifk-helsinki/Ige43GcN/"]IFK Helsinki[/a] made light work of a trip to third-placed [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/kookoo/ljjApDE3/"]KooKoo[/a], running out [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/hockey/ifk-helsinki-Ige43GcN/kookoo-ljjApDE3/?mid=KK7Hd7GF"]5-1[/a] winners as [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/repo-sebastian/nXHIhU8t/"]Sebastian Repo[/a] bagged a brace.
