Manchester City kept up their relentless pressure on rivals Arsenal in the Premier League title race, with a 1-0 victory over Leeds United at Elland Road that marked their sixth straight win against the Whites.

[p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/manchester-city/Wtn9Stg0/"]Manchester City[/a]’s need to win here was certainly greater than that of [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/leeds/tUxUbLR2/"]Leeds[/a]’, but it was the hosts who started on the offensive.[/p][p]A huge chance couldn’t have fallen the way of a better person than [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/calvert-lewin-dominic/0WmBe6U2/"]Dominic Calvert-Lewin[/a], as he was left unmarked in the area to sweep home [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/aaronson-brendan/0GqS59FE/"]Brenden Aaronson[/a]’s delivery, but he got his left-footed effort horribly wrong and skewed well wide of the post.[/p][p]He then had a swift opportunity for redemption when he snuck into the area, only to drag another left-footed effort almost across the goal line and out for a goal kick.[/p][p]Chances continued to come and go for Leeds as City struggled to get a foothold in the game, with Aaronson going mightily close when he darted across the near post and saw his goalbound flick heroically blocked by [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/guehi-marc/KEeklutO/"]Marc Guehi[/a].[/p][p]Indeed, it took City 39 minutes to force [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/darlow-karl/tCXYzajG/"]Karl Darlow[/a] into any kind of action, and after routinely thwarting [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/marmoush-omar/44pYRYIC/"]Omar Marmoush[/a], he was forced to beat away [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/gonzalez-nicolas/ID3evg0L/"]Nico O’Reilly’s[/a] header from just six yards out.[/p][embed guid="d9e6d811-8873-4ba0-a3ec-c9bb4e1d9401" url="https://x.com/ManCity/status/2027813323509542975" social-type="twitter" /][p]But City managed to garner some momentum just before half-time, and took the lead somewhat against the run of play, when [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/semenyo-antoine/r1Gz1yPk/"]Antoine Semenyo[/a] freed himself in the area to turn home [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/ait-nouri-rayan/t4db4nTt/"]Rayan Ait-Nouri[/a]’s cross in first-half stoppage time.[/p][p]As they did in the first half, Leeds emerged from the dressing room with a sense of purpose. And again it was Calvert-Lewin doing most of the menacing, as he was left unmarked at the far post, only for a last-ditch [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/matheus-nunes/KC5IHolc/"]Matheus Nunes[/a] block to deny him an equaliser.[/p][p]City were far from at their fluent best, but ought to have doubled their advantage just after the hour mark, when [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/dias-ruben/OpVD3nmU/"]Ruben Dias[/a]’ miscued strike fell kindly for Omar Marmoush at the far post, but even at full stretch, he could only prod an effort wide of the far post.[/p][image alt="Match stats" id="6bf4e72b-ab91-4424-b252-20d03ec5328c" credit-line="Opta by StatsPerform" guid="11549e38-42be-4d95-9d9e-1cc594046a27" original-width="1080" original-height="1080" /][p]The Citizens came even closer 10 minutes later through Guéhi, whose goal-bound header was clawed off the line by Darlow. That provoked an attack-minded double change from Daniel Farke 15 minutes from time.[/p][p]His gamble gave Leeds a platform to get back into the game, but despite applying some serious pressure on [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/donnarumma-gianluigi/WScbdXmL/"]Gianluigi Donnarumma[/a]’s goal, they were unable to find a breakthrough.[/p][p]Tonight’s result sees City close the gap on league leaders [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/arsenal/hA1Zm19f/"]Arsenal[/a] to just two points, while Leeds remain six points clear of the bottom three.[/p][p]Flashscore Man of the Match: [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/ait-nouri-rayan/t4db4nTt/"]Rayan Ait-Nouri[/a] (Man City)[/p][image alt="Momentum" id="6e08d12b-3c9c-4205-b873-878df56c139f" credit-line="Opta by StatsPerform" guid="c9d78e5e-0621-46d3-b538-7ff57acf8d8f" original-width="1920" original-height="1080" /][p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/soccer/leeds-tUxUbLR2/manchester-city-Wtn9Stg0/summary/stats/?mid=YsWzvhXG"]Catch up on the match stats with Flashscore.[/a][/p]
