Title holders KuPS have moved top of the Veikkausliiga on goal difference after they thumped HJK on the road after the hosts received an early sending off, while Inter Turku returned to winning ways but the margin of victory was not enough to keep them at the summit.

[p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/soccer/hjk-nmjJVR7B/kups-nLBbqJDS/?mid=lWVypXXP"]HJK 0-4 KuPS[/a][/p][p]Finland's current champions ensured they left Helsinki with the bragging rights after thrashing Finland's record champions in a result that takes [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/kups/nLBbqJDS/"]KuPS[/a] top on goal difference and ends [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/hjk/nmjJVR7B/"]HJK[/a]'s four-match unbeaten run.[/p][p]The key moment of the contest came just 12 minutes in, when [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/tikkanen-ville/Y7rTAqJd/"]Ville Tikkanen[/a] was given a straight red card for handling the ball. A harsh punishment in normal circumstances, but in using his arm to divert a ball over the top, the defender denied a clear goalscoring opportunity for [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/moreno-jaime/SnTwttL9/"]Jaime Moreno[/a], who was looking to run in behind.[/p][p]The 10 men managed to keep the game tight for almost half an hour, but four minutes before half-time, KuPS found a way through when [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/pennanen-petteri/dGM43Ult/"]Petteri Pennanen[/a] took aim from 25 yards and his strike flew past [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/ost-jesse/UkK3CDbc/"]Jesse Ost[/a]. Eight minutes into the second half, Pennanen was at it again, picking up a loose ball at the edge of the area following a swift attack, and coolly burying the chance for his third goal this week.[/p][embed guid="3ddc406a-f2d9-42eb-885e-f779abf52e2f" url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfISLWG35YU" social-type="youtube" /][p]HJK managed to stem the tide, but only for so long, conceding twice more in the final 11 minutes; Moreno's excellent run into the box had KuPS players queuing up to finish, but it was Moreno who finally headed home [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/hamalainen-taneli/4xADHzV8/"]Taneli Hamalainen[/a]'s cross. [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/heinonen-arttu/fy4PTz88/"]Arttu Heinonen[/a] made it four soon after, tapping home after Ost had fumbled a cross.[/p][p]Those two late goals were crucial for the Kuopio side, improving their goal difference to +12, one better than [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/inter-turku/QwkNUoNH/"]Inter Turku[/a]'s, with the sides level on 30 points. [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/conteh-alie/xryT2cjo/"]Alie Conteh[/a] pounced on a loose ball in first half added time to break the deadlock, before completing his brace with another late strike, making it 2-0 in the 95th minute.
