Home favourite Marc Marquez beats Johann Zarco to pole for Spanish Grand Prix

[p]The reigning champion edged out Honda rider [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/zarco-johann/xrzbVGsc/"]Johann Zarco[/a] by 0.140sec, with [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/di-giannantonio-fabio/pI4o388M/"]Fabio Di Giannantonio[/a] third, over a second behind [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/marquez-marc/UPhfij2b/"]Marquez[/a]'s time of 1min 48.087sec on his Ducati.[/p][p]Marc's brother [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/marquez-alex/6uLgHlWF/"]Alex Marquez[/a] was quickest in practice on Friday but could not match that in qualifying and crashed on turn nine, although he recovered to come in fifth.[/p][p]The Spaniard will be on row two along with overall leader Aprilia Racing's [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/bezzecchi-marco/EXzAZEse/"]Marco Bezzecchi[/a] and KTM rider Pedro Acosta.[/p][p][b]"Yesterday in the dry I think Alex was a step ahead of everyone, then the rest of us were there, pretty similar,"[/b] Marc Marquez told DAZN.[/p][p]"However in the wet, in conditions where you have to flow a bit more, without overdoing it so much and pushing so hard, that's where I feel more comfortable."[/p][embed guid="8ea7c7b9-76a6-4284-b3b9-21f5654fecd2" url="https://x.com/MotoGP/status/2047976504898851096" social-type="twitter" /][p]It was Marc Marquez's first pole since Hungary in August 2025.[/p][p]Jorge Martin and Fermin Aldeguer also crashed in the tricky conditions, while several other riders including Franco Morbidelli and Jack Miller had crashed in Q1 earlier on.[/p][p]The sprint race in Jerez takes place later Saturday.[/p]
