Japan survive Australia scare to seal top spot in Pool C and make WBC knockouts

Masataka Yoshida sparked a struggling Japan offense to a 4-3 win over Australia to seal their progress to the US for the knockout stages of the World Baseball Classic.

Starman [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/chang-yu/lUlpRzMi/"]Yu Chang[/a] homered in the second inning to give them the lead, before South Korea replied, after a quiet start, in the fifth.[/p][p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/whicomb-shay/OdruQZJU/"]Shay Whitcomb[/a], who has been in blistering form for South Korea, grounded into a double play, but it was enough for [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/ahn-hyun-min/Wdd0AgAD/"]Min Ahn[/a] to score from third.[/p][p]Their opponents were undeterred, as [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/cheng-tsung/tEt2eWal/"]Tsung-Che Cheng[/a] smashed their second homer of the day to put them back in front.[/p][p]The see-saw battle continued into the sixth as [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/kim-do-young/bs71p42k/"]Kim Do-Yeong[/a] hit a towering bomb of his own to give South Korea their first lead of the game.[/p][p]Chances came and went for Chinese Taipei to draw level, but the drama wasn't done as Whitcomb's own home run to score two runs and send his bench into delirium.
