Dynamic Danes run riot against Serbia to seal ticket for Women's World Cup in Brazil

[p]The Danish women's national football team players did what their male colleagues failed to accomplish. With a convincing 4-1 away win over [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/serbia/nysgULwS/"]Serbia[/a], [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/denmark/W0rDArJ8/"]Denmark[/a] secured a ticket to next summer's World Cup in Brazil on Tuesday evening.[/p][p]The result was the icing on the cake of an impressive qualification campaign by new national team coach Jakob Michelsen and his players. The team was seeded third in the group stage, but ended up winning the group ahead of [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/italy/fiD8utDF/"]Italy[/a] and [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/sweden/hGWL8MmL/"]Sweden[/a].[/p][p]Before Tuesday's showdown in Serbia, it was clear that Denmark only needed a draw against the bottom team of the group to secure qualification.[/p][p]And the Danes made matters clear already in the first half, as they started and finished the half well.[/p][p]The Danish players began with plenty of confidence after the 2-1 triumph over Sweden last week, and within 15 minutes, they were two goals ahead.[/p][p]Cecilie Floe scored the first when she poked a loose ball over the goal line from close range.[/p][embed guid="67f57702-edf1-4992-a4ad-ad4808d67856" url="https://x.com/dbulandshold/status/2064420118512255049" social-type="twitter" /][p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/vangsgaard-amalie/2mhWpAzd/"]Amalie Vangsgaard[/a] then doubled the lead for the Danes with a well-placed header from Sofie Svava's inswinging cross.  [/p][p]However, the Danes were hardly done celebrating before the Serbs reduced the deficit as Allegra Poljak's deflected shot left Danish keeper Freja Thisgaard helpless. [/p][p]This prompted the home side to take control of the match, but against the run of play, the Danes made it 3-1 five minutes before the end of the first half when Pernille Harder converted a penalty after Amalie Vangsgaard had been brought down in the box. [/p][p]Just two minutes later, Vangsgaard increased the score to 4-1 with the best goal of the match, as she curled a superb shot into the far corner to leave the Danes in solid control at the break. [/p][p]With the comfortable lead in the back, the Danes were content just to defend and preserve their lead in a second half which did not have the intensity of the first. [/p][p]The Danes were content just to let the minutes tick by until the referee's final whistle made the World Cup qualification a reality.[/p]
