Newly-crowned Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich mounted a sensational second-half comeback to win 4-3 at FSV Mainz, avoiding defeat for just the second time in their last six visits to the Mewa Arena.

[p]Knowing that [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/bayern-munich/nVp0wiqd/"]Bayern[/a]’s sights would be set on a potential treble after already sealing the top-flight title, [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/mainz/EuakNmc1/"]Mainz[/a] set out to take advantage – and they didn’t have to wait long.[/p][p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/sano-kaishu/v13GHQFg/"]Kaishu Sano[/a] revived their attack with a brilliant touch on the right side of the box, before sending it back into the middle for [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/kohr-dominik/jHU6p6gQ/"]Dominik Kohr[/a] to fire a bouncing volley into the net. [/p][p]The visitors remained all over the place in the aftermath, allowing shots from [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/becker-sheraldo/2scm2TO3/"]Sheraldo Becker[/a] and [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/amiri-nadiem/b3H5VR8I/"]Nadiem Amiri[/a] to make it through and force fine saves from [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/urbig-jonas/6TJsuRSF/"]Jonas Urbig[/a].[/p][p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/kompany-vincent/K6A2elS9/"]Vincent Kompany[/a] might have been regretting leaving some of his biggest stars on the bench, and saw his side’s chances of equalling the all-time record Bundesliga points tally evaporate further as Mainz got their second.[/p][p]Sano did some great work in the centre of the park before releasing Amiri, whose shot was parried by Urbig, only for [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/nebel-paul/jRexguuN/"]Paul Nebel[/a] to arrive and power into the roof of the net. [/p][p]And a similar situation gave a rampant Mainz a three-goal buffer before the break, with Amiri’s piledriver pushed onto the bar by Urbig before it cannoned upwards and spun onto the goalline for Becker to bundle in.[/p][image alt="Match stats" id="74a873d4-8502-4da5-96b3-8e53be12d91d" credit-line="StatsPerform via Opta" guid="f0a08e7c-9ce8-46ee-b90e-2bf146ae7178" original-width="1080" original-height="1080" /][p]The Bayern boss simply had no choice but to look to his star-studded bench for the second half, and there was an immediate change in their fortunes as a result.[/p][p]Mainz seemed powerless to stop them as [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/laimer-konrad/GlHWqQKJ/"]Konrad Laimer[/a]’s cross from the right was volleyed past [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/batz-daniel/O8pNQ3UH/"]Daniel Batz[/a] by [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/jackson-nicolas/jXg8d5RJ/"]Nicolas Jackson[/a], before substitute Michael Olise made the deficit just one by cutting inside and curling a stunning strike into the far top corner. [/p][p]The Bayern machine continued rolling from there, and parity was restored with [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/musiala-jamal/nVzSNrOf/"]Jamal Musiala[/a]’s tap-in after the hosts failed to clear Olise’s cross.[/p][p]There was only likely to be one winner from there, with Bayern ruthlessly securing the three points when Batz parried Musiala’s cross into the path of [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/kane-harry/v5HSlEAa/"]Harry Kane[/a], who slotted inside the near post.[/p][image alt="Match momentum" id="d664975d-1547-4aae-a628-ead0db5f8b2e" credit-line="StatsPerform via Opta" guid="83bfc467-c5e4-4621-9e60-cf4561411be6" original-width="1920" original-height="1080" /][p] Mainz will therefore have to wait until next weekend to secure their top-flight status, but they’ll still likely spend an 18th successive season in the Bundesliga.[/p][p]While they’ll be more worried about their upcoming UEFA Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain, the victory means Bayern are still in with a chance of equalling the all-time Bundesliga points record.[/p][p]Flashscore Man of the Match: [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/olise-michael/E5pvwqkK/"]Michael Olise[/a] ([a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/bayern-munich/nVp0wiqd/"]Bayern Munich[/a])[/p][p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/soccer/bayern-munich-nVp0wiqd/mainz-EuakNmc1/?mid=rHNpwTmo"]Check out the match summary here[/a].[/p]
