Bernd Wiesberger prevails at China Open to win first DP World Tour title in five years

Austria's Bernd Wiesberger beat Adrian Otaegui by three shots to win the China Open on Sunday for his first DP World Tour title in five years.

[p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/wiesberger-bernd/W68iuLPs/"]Wiesberger[/a] scored a final-round four-under-par 67 to finish on 19 under at Shanghai Enhance Anting Golf Club and claim his ninth win on what was formerly the European Tour.[/p][p]It was the 40-year-old's first victory on the tour since winning in Denmark in 2021 and came after going into the turn three shots behind the UAE's [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/otaegui-adrian/ANlIk57l/"]Otaegui[/a].[/p][embed guid="94690e69-cf49-4300-aec3-493590cc16d0" url="https://x.com/i/status/2048326874477346907" social-type="twitter" /][p]An emotional Wiesberger said it had been "a tough couple of years" as he savoured his first victory on the DP World Tour in 1,792 days.[/p][p][b]"Unbelievable week, I played my heart out today,"[/b] said the former Ryder Cup player, tears in his eyes.[/p][p][b]"It wasn't pretty at times, but I got it done.[/b][/p][p][b]"Super proud of sticking through hard times on the golf course lately. Couldn't be happier,"[/b] he added.[/p][embed guid="40906499-5a34-41ef-a6d9-2c5fc9c59303" url="https://x.com/DPWorldTour/status/2048338358494212430?s=20" social-type="twitter" /][p]Wiesberger was unruffled in what became a straight shootout between him and Otaegui.[/p][p]He carded four birdies - three of them on holes 10, 11 and 13 - against no bogeys in his flawless final round.[/p][p]In contrast, Spain-born Otaegui's title charge faltered with bogeys on the 12th and 16th holes and he finished with a double bogey to sign off with a round of even-par 71.[/p][p]Third was Sweden's [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/lindberg-mikael/St0U5dTJ/"]Mikael Lindberg[/a], two shots further back at 14 under, with South Africa's [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/norris-shaun/8lu0kFDJ/"]Shaun Norris[/a] another shot back.[/p]
