Ipswich produce stunning late show to inflict another blow on winless Fulham

[p]It took some time for these two sides to rediscover their rhythm after the long international break, and although [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/fulham/69ZiU2Om/"]Fulham[/a] passed the ball nicely in the opening stages, [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/ipswich/thqhB2MB/"]Ipswich[/a] had the contest’s first chance when [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/enciso-julio/f19S9MEi/"]Julio Enciso[/a] curled marginally wide from outside the box.[/p][p]Quality in the final third was at a premium in a game often locked in midfield, illustrated by [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/affengruber-david/EFLxG99f/"]David Affengruber[/a]’s wayward header off target from a promising position.[/p][p]Alvaro Arbeloa’s men became more dangerous as the half progressed, opening up the Ipswich defence with a pair of incisive moves. Both came after the half-hour mark, the first of which saw a powerful [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/berge-sander/KCY13JFl/"]Sander Berge[/a] strike parried wide by [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/walton-christian/OYGIpSqH/"]Christian Walton[/a], before [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/garcia-gonzalo/pWxyEyDA/"]Gonzalo Garcia[/a] dragged a shot wide of the left post.[/p][image alt="Match stats" id="7ab5eec6-7456-42ea-a6bf-a45c76d8abe8" credit-line="Flashscore" guid="31f48c0c-29e6-4258-8b42-bf9442e688ff" original-width="2160" original-height="2700" /][p]Given that Ipswich had failed to keep a clean sheet in their prior 24 Premier League matches, the Cottagers must have fancied their chances after the break.[/p][p]Momentum remained with the visitors after the break, though after [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/bobb-oscar/GzxuaXeQ/"]Oscar Bobb[/a] dribbled through the Tractor Boys’ defence and [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/king-joshua/tnnZhru5/"]Josh King[/a] found Garcia, the Spaniard’s gilt-edged chance went begging thanks to a block from ex-Fulham defender [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/diop-issa/Eyqbicqr/"]Issa Diop[/a].[/p][p]Relief among the home fans was decidedly short-lived, though, as moments later a corner was cleared to the edge of the area where [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/sessegnon-ryan/WOecsPmi/"]Ryan Sessegnon[/a] brilliantly drilled into the bottom corner.[/p][p]A flurry of action followed the opener, as [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/emersonn/48J66oWK/"]Emersonn[/a] cannoned a header off the post from close range before Fulham ought to have extended their lead through Bobb, who could only fire over after working the space to shoot.[/p][image alt="Match momentum" id="d003b550-d395-469c-9ac9-eea72d5e5efb" credit-line="Flashscore" guid="568d8eb2-9974-4087-ad36-14c2a69a6c74" original-width="2160" original-height="2700" /][p]In the closing stages, Ipswich began to apply pressure in their search for an equaliser, and after he kept out an effort from [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/egeli-sindre-walle/GbNzWHO0/"]Sindre Walle Egeli[/a], Fulham goalkeeper [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/leno-bernd/jwRV63z0/"]Bernd Leno[/a] was powerless when [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/ouattara-guemissongui/xIPWalyj/"]Abdoul Ouattara[/a] arrowed in his first goal in English football, brilliantly picking out the bottom corner from long range in the 88th minute. [/p][p]The Cottagers were hanging on, and ultimately succumbed to the Ipswich onslaught as [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/o-shea-dara/4ETEZJ7p/"]Dara O’Shea[/a] headed [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/clarke-jack/fTyETuhb/"]Jack Clarke[/a]’s delivery in to hand Fulham just a second defeat in their last 16 Premier League outings against newly-promoted opposition.[/p][p]Flashscore Man of the Match: [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/o-shea-dara/4ETEZJ7p/"]Dara O’Shea[/a] ([a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/ipswich/thqhB2MB/"]Ipswich Town[/a])[/p][p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/soccer/fulham-69ZiU2Om/ipswich-thqhB2MB/?mid=UZ96Io4U"]Click here for all the stats of the match.[/a][/p]
