Super-sub Olise steals the show as France pull off late turnaround to beat Belgium

[p]Zidane and Mark van Bommel both entrusted debutant goalkeepers, and they both made a confident start to proceedings. [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/restes-guillaume/v3qqsoQi/"]Guillaume Restes[/a] was the first to make a save as he got down to deny [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/lukaku-romelu/dCkG0Iw0/"]Romelu Lukaku[/a]’s strike from range, before [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/vandevoordt-maarten/AFY9ARa5/"]Maarten Vandevoordt[/a] rushed out to halt [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/barcola-bradley/lhGD3RgS/"]Bradley Barcola[/a].[/p][p]While the goalkeepers had a fairly equal workload early on, [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/france/QkGeVG1n/"]France[/a] dominated possession for large periods but often found a Belgian body in their way at the vital moment. [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/raskin-nicolas/xxLZVXdU/"]Nicolas Raskin[/a] was one of those as he blocked an [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/camavinga-eduardo/6ekYsPfO/"]Eduardo Camavinga[/a] attempt, but he also headed over from a [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/lukebakio-dodi/08a9jhm9/"]Dodi Lukebakio[/a] cross at the other end.[/p][p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/lepaul-esteban/GGw2OEMr/"]Esteban Lepaul[/a] then sent one shot on the turn straight at Vandevoordt and another effort harmlessly off-target, while Lukebakio made a complete mess of his attempt from a corner between those strikes.[/p][p]The Belgian winger made no mistake when [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/lavia-romeo/UepSPHBj/"]Romeo Lavia[/a]’s pinpoint pass split the hosts wide open and played him clean through in the 35th minute, though, as he latched onto the ball and coolly finished.[/p][embed guid="3eab2c17-9274-4e8c-91ee-4a2063593b43" url="https://x.com/UEFAEURO/status/2107194834486284506" social-type="twitter" /][p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/vanaken-hans/0Cu4qHps/"]Hans Vanaken[/a] blocked [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/dembele-ousmane/zsMC2Ec0/"]Ousmane Dembele[/a]’s shot as the [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/manchester-united/ppjDR086/"]Red Devils[/a] continued to stand firm against any French advances.[/p][p]It was more of the same after the restart as Lavia blocked [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/kone-kouadio/YDaoYZBS/"]Manu Kone[/a]’s attempt, but Dembele struck wide under pressure from [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/seys-joaquin/vyuc4aCs/"]Joaquin Seys[/a] after the ball had fallen to him.[/p][p]While the visitors’ conviction contributed to [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/lacroix-maxence/j5bGWFU7/"]Maxence Lacroix[/a] resorting to a shot from ambitiously far out that trickled wide, it also saw Lavia receive a booking that keeps him out of the next game.[/p][p] Zidane responded with a triple change on the hour mark, and all three had a hand in a storming comeback.[/p][image alt="Match momentum" id="1a9bd3ff-5321-40d1-a01f-480431385dfe" credit-line="Flashscore" hidden-attrs="alt, credit" guid="ad728696-f5da-4e1d-b1fd-e27c4e9c1d31" original-width="3840" original-height="2160" /][p]First, [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/olise-michael/E5pvwqkK/"]Michael Olise[/a] had one shot saved and another impressively blocked while [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/cherki-mathis/vm0eu2V3/"]Rayan Cherki[/a]’s curling effort was tipped wide.[/p][p]Barcola’s first-time attempt was deflected agonisingly wide by [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/ngoy-nathan/x6Zak7to/"]Nathan Ngoy[/a] but the pressure finally told in the 77th minute, when [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/da-cunha-lucas/IXqHAIWJ/"]Lucas Da Cunha[/a] fed [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/doue-desire/KIUWH2Jq/"]Desire Doue[/a], who picked out the bottom corner from the edge of the box. [/p][p]It got even better for Les Bleus just three minutes later as Cherki met Olise’s cutback with a shot that went in despite Vandevoordt getting a hand to it. [/p][p]There was yet more to come as Olise poked the ball home and then converted after eye-catching play from Doue three minutes later. [/p][p]The late goals completely changed the complexion of Group A1, with France unbeaten and three points ahead of [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/italy/hlKvieGH/"]Italy[/a] while [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/belgium/GbB957na/"]Belgium[/a] sit third.[/p][p]Flashscore Man of the Match: [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/olise-michael/E5pvwqkK/"]Michael Olise[/a] ([a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/france/QkGeVG1n/"]France[/a])[/p][p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/soccer/belgium-GbB957na/france-QkGeVG1n/?mid=EmmmJQ3L"]Catch up on all the match stats with Flashscore.[/a][/p][image alt="Olise's match stats" id="41fb2433-c33f-48af-ac42-8bdd654cec85" credit-line="Flashscore" guid="52ea7187-7a31-4718-9f57-f2583942450c" original-width="2160" original-height="2700" /]
