Nightmare for Jerdy Schouten: PSV star out for World Cup with ACL injury

PSV captain Jerdy Schouten has been ruled out for the rest of the season and the upcoming FIFA World Cup after picking up a severe knee injury in Saturday's game against FC Utrecht, the club have confirmed.

[p]The 29-year-old [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/schouten-jerdy/lYVHp6x4/"]Schouten[/a] twisted his knee in the second half of [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/psv/M9UEHJWi/"]PSV[/a]'s [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/soccer/psv-M9UEHJWi/utrecht-p6QXMgOj/?mid=x0deWfR0"]4-3 win[/a] and immediately fell to the ground, grasping his knee. The PSV captain had to be stretchered off.[/p][p]Tests have confirmed that Schouten has suffered a severe anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury that'll require him to get surgery, the club said on Sunday.[/p][p][b]“When it happened, I actually knew straight away that something was wrong,” [/b]Schouten said in a reaction on the club website.[/p][embed guid="f19ca822-8bb9-4e03-8739-aa80a18d736f" url="https://x.com/OnsOranje/status/2040767549835460908?s=20" social-type="twitter" /][p][b]“You still hold onto a glimmer of hope that it might not be as bad as it seems, but unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.
