KNVB rejects NAC's appeal: Go Ahead and James left unpunished in passport gate

Go Ahead Eagles will not be penalised for playing Dean James in the 6-0 win over NAC Breda, the KNVB confirmed on Thursday.

[p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/nac-breda/nLNrHc14/"]NAC Breda[/a] lodged an appeal with the KNVB after the 6-0 defeat, claiming [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/g-a-eagles/hG8POBb8/"]Go Ahead Eagles[/a] left-back [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/james-dean/KOpljdXR/"]Dean James[/a] was ineligible. NAC claimed that Dean James was playing with a Dutch registration assigned to his Dutch passport, which he had forfeited after obtaining Indonesian nationality.[/p][p]Dean James switched nationality in March 2025 to play international football for Indonesia, for whom he's played 5 games. Furthermore, it has become apparent that the consequences of adopting a different nationality were largely unknown in professional football," [/b]the statement said.[/p][p]The KNVB did acknowledge that Dean James was not eligible to play. The FA did not communicate whether the game between Go Ahead Eagles and NAC Breda would have to be replayed, as NAC demanded in the appeal.[/p][p]NAC released a statement saying they await the final decision.[/p]
