Concern over Haaland fitness after star striker requests substitution and limps off

[p]Just days out from a crunch Premier League clash with [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/liverpool/lId4TMwf/"]Liverpool[/a], [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/manchester-city/Wtn9Stg0/"]Manchester City[/a] are sweating on the fitness of star striker [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/haaland-erling/UmV9iQmE/"]Erling Haaland[/a] after he was seen asking [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/norway/8rP6JO0H/"]Norway[/a] head Stale Solbakken to withdraw him from Norway's [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/soccer/norway-8rP6JO0H/portugal-WvJrjFVN/?mid=Ei1jt6O0"]2-1[/a] UEFA Nations League defeat to [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/portugal/WvJrjFVN/"]Portugal[/a] on Sunday evening.[/p][p]Haaland gestured at his coach close to the 60-minute mark of the match, with the game evenly poised at 1-1, before limping off the ground in clear discomfort during the 67th minute. [/p][p]It was not immediately clear whether Haaland had sustained an injury or was merely suffering from cramp and/or fatigue after playing more than five-and-a-half hours of international football across three different countries in less than two weeks. [/p][infobox id="5a8fbd57-e97c-4bdc-9f6b-fb0fb254e893" /][p]The concerns were downplayed by Solbakken, who told Norwegian television broadcaster TV2 that the team had always planned to sub Haaland off during the second half, though the footage seen of the normally indefatigable 26-year-old leaving the pitch awkwardly would still be of immense concern to Manchester City team management. [/p][p]City will be anxious to get Haaland back to camp for a thorough medical assessment ahead of Sunday's trip to Merseyside, where they'll be looking to maintain their perfect start to the Premier League season. [/p][p]The game will no doubt be a welcome distraction from the ongoing saga engulfing the club, who were [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/news/man-city-charges/KKdij7ZaWSzc94ws/"]found guilty of more than 100 charges[/a] relating to financial fraud, dominating the back pages even during England's UEFA Nations League campaign. [/p][embed guid="b83a3ae0-e04a-46be-b4ba-26eb72b5f5a6" url="https://x.com/sheslivsangel/status/2106858809415397856" social-type="twitter" /][infobox id="d39bc573-b9dd-4b87-acb9-2de1f22d36c7" /]
