Chelsea captain Reece James will miss Tuesday's Champions League round-of-16 second-leg clash against ‌Paris Saint-Germain after sustaining a ‌hamstring injury, manager Liam ‌Rosenior said on Monday, adding ‌that the problem could be ‌serious for the right back.

[p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/james-reece/nLBC7ERa/"]James[/a], who last week signed a ‌six-year contract extension tying him to ‌his boyhood club until 2032, picked up the issue during [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/chelsea/4fGZN2oK/"]Chelsea[/a]'s [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/soccer/chelsea-4fGZN2oK/newcastle-p6ahwuwJ/?mid=juf03THP"]1-0[/a] Premier League home defeat by [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/newcastle-utd/p6ahwuwJ/"]Newcastle United[/a].[/p][p]The 26-year-old England international did not take part in training [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/soccer/chelsea-4fGZN2oK/psg-CjhkPw0k/?mid=na24mP0f"]ahead of the Stamford Bridge game[/a], with Chelsea needing to overturn ‌a 5-2 first-leg deficit against the reigning European champions.[/p][embed guid="cebc693f-56bb-40b4-8e10-263b95a6f39d" url="https://x.com/ChelseaFC/status/2033269787594215859" social-type="twitter" /][p]"Reece felt something in his hamstring towards the end of the Newcastle game," [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/rosenior-liam/4fMAHvLm/"]Rosenior[/a] told reporters. "We don't know the full extent of the injury yet, ‌but he will be out for tomorrow's game.[/p][p]"It could ‌be serious - with a hamstring injury, it's never ideal. Hopefully, we can get him scanned and find out more."[/p][p]Rosenior also provided updates on other fitness concerns, with right back [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/gusto-malo/YNCrLSO2/"]Malo[/a] Gusto and goalkeeper [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/jorgensen-filip/OSueaqvP/"]Filip Jorgensen[/a] both doubts.[/p][p]"Malo is ill today, so we'll look at that tomorrow. With Filip, he's felt something in his groin and we will get him scanned," he said.[/p][p]Chelsea received a boost on the disciplinary front, with winger [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/neto-pedro/lxtnUkIP/"]Pedro Neto[/a] cleared to play after UEFA handed him a warning for pushing a ball boy during the first-leg defeat at the Parc des Princes.[/p][p]"He's a fantastic player, he has apologised for the incident and I think UEFA have made the right decision," Rosenior said.[/p][embed guid="499a4aff-e1b0-4ab7-9424-1448977e4e49" url="https://x.com/ChelseaFC/status/2033561471712473477" social-type="twitter" /][p]Earlier on Monday, Chelsea were fined a record total of 10.75 million pounds for historical breaches of Premier League regulations. The club were also handed a one-year first-team transfer ban, suspended for two years, along with an immediate nine-month academy transfer ban.[/p][p]Rosenior played down the impact of the sanctions on preparations for Tuesday's match.[/p][p]"It's not a negative distraction. It's a line drawn through that issue. (Now) we can plan to make this club as strong as possible," the 41-year-old Englishman said.[/p][p]Despite the injuries, off-field issues and a daunting scoreline, Rosenior insisted his side still believe they can trouble [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/psg/CjhkPw0k/"]PSG[/a].[/p][p]"I think this week was difficult for us. We know our strengths, we still believe because we showed in the Club World Cup when we won 3-0 (against PSG in the final). The group believe, the manager believes, the fans should believe as well," he said.[/p]
