Jesper de Jong progressed to the third round of the French Open with relative ease after sending Italian Federico Cina home after three sets and under two hours: 6-3, 6-1, 6-3.

[p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/de-jong-jesper/8jStUWzB/"]Jesper de Jong[/a], the only remaining Dutchman in the French Open after getting a 'lucky loser' ticket, sent [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/wawrinka-stan/Uo9lu6le/"]Stan Wawrinka[/a] home in the first round of the latter's last Roland-Garros campaign. The 106th-ranked De Jong faced off against 19-year-old Italian [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/cina-federico/lvlXwMKk/"]Federico Cina[/a] in the second round, who beat [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/opelka-reilly/fqKkCJdJ/"]Reilly Opelka[/a] in five sets on Sunday.[/p][p]De Jong started off on the wrong foot after going down 40-0 in his very first service game and immediately giving Cina the lead with a break. The Dutchman recovered quickly and went on a rampage to seal the set win, winning the last five games in a row and making use of every break point that he got.[/p][embed guid="54303e91-2451-44b4-abc2-e1d0248c2593" url="https://x.com/Eurosport_NL/status/2059587571596865796?s=20" social-type="twitter" /][p]In the second set, De Jong made light work of Cina, who became error-prone and could not keep up with his Dutch counterpart. Cina gave away the set after losing the last two games on love, with the Italian recording just two return points and 18 unforced errors, as opposed to De Jong's 15 return points and 6 unforced errors.[/p][p]With the third set starting after 66 minutes, a fresh De Jong took another early break lead, but nearly suffered a rebreak next time of asking. An ace and another unforced error from Cina wiped both of the Italian's break points off the board, as De Jong kept his serve with a winner and a forced error.[/p][p]Cina came into his own more towards the tail end of the set, but it wasn't enough to avoid a straight-sets defeat to Jesper de Jong, who won the match in 109 minutes with his 11th ace and reached the third round of the French Open for the first time in his career.[/p][p]In the third round, De Jong will face 13th-ranked [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/khachanov-karen/4bNPtZT5/"]Karen Khachanov[/a].[/p][p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/tennis/cina-f-lvlXwMKk/de-jong-j-8jStUWzB/?mid=WId2oXO6"]Check out the full match statistics here[/a][/p][image alt="Key match stats" id="250d7637-508e-4806-a043-76ee3a1f83e5" credit-line="Flashscore" guid="0a9d4f3b-cf50-4ffd-a5bb-5bf622043840" original-width="1080" original-height="1080" /]
