VfB Stuttgart have moved three points clear of RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga’s top four, following a 1-0 success over the Red Bulls at the MHPArena - their first win over any side that started this round inside the top five after four failed attempts.

[p]Seeking to make a contribution in a fifth successive Bundesliga outing, [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/diomande-yan/0p2ORrJi/"]Yan Diomande[/a] demonstrated his blistering pace in the opening five minutes. He burst past [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/hendriks-ramon/x2tZQYZD/"]Ramon Hendriks[/a] and tried to square the ball to [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/romulo/CEw8PVST/"]Romulo[/a], but the Brazilian was unable to make a connection and prod into the net.[/p][p]On the balance of play, [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/rb-leipzig/KbS1suSm/"]Leipzig[/a] posed the greater danger in the opening half-hour, though [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/vfb-stuttgart/nJQmYp1B/"]Stuttgart[/a]’s first chance showed ample promise, as [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/demirovic-ermedin/dIsZ5Eyb/"]Ermedin Demirovic[/a] saw an attempted shot into the opposite corner of the Leipzig net deflected wide.[/p][p]Each side forged chances to go ahead closer to half-time as well, with [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/baumgartner-christoph/rqcu4a9O/"]Christoph Baumgartner[/a] firstly finding space inside the box after collecting a pass, only to fire over the crossbar.[/p][p]In response to that, Stuttgart could well have stolen a half-time lead with the final kick of the first half, as a free kick saw [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/fuhrich-chris/bczcNJFB/"]Chris Fuhrich[/a] lay the ball off for [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/leweling-jamie/UTtpcjym/"]Jamie Leweling[/a], who produced a daisycutter that [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/vandevoordt-maarten/AFY9ARa5/"]Maarten Vandevoordt[/a] did well to palm away from the bottom-left corner.[/p][image alt="Match momentum" id="58fed93d-5f1e-4f0f-8e78-fab292e34350" credit-line="Opta by StatsPerform" guid="acda669e-7b8c-4b0f-a83f-50bed0b1fcca" original-width="1920" original-height="1080" /][p]The first 10 minutes of the second half only continued the end-to-end theme that was emerging, with fantastic saves from each goalkeeper separated by barely a minute.[/p][p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/seiwald-nicolas/fivkoAh0/"]Nicolas Seiwald[/a] saw a point-blank header palmed away by [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/nubel-alexander/Igk6vzlT/"]Alexander Nubel[/a] on the goalline, with [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/stiller-angelo/0hF2GIXS/"]Angelo Stiller[/a] completing the clearance, and sparking a counter that saw Deniz Undav rob Seiwald and force Vandevoordt into another dramatic parry on the dive.[/p][p]But Vandevoordt would then undo all that good work in the 56th minute, when he tried to pass downfield and could only find Fuhrich. He fed [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/undav-deniz/tUHAdtMH/"]Undav[/a] in turn, who calmly picked his spot and slotted in the opener.[/p][embed guid="5b0c0d1a-377d-4a4c-90a9-d96baeed7c47" url="https://x.com/VfB_int/status/2033270252218319226" social-type="twitter" /][p]Only the quick thinking and astute tackling of [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/orban-willi/WQdSnUfq/"]Willi Orban[/a] prevented Undav from getting a second just after the hour mark. Yet, with each of the previous eight meetings seeing both teams score, few in attendance believed that Leipzig would go down without a fight.[/p][p]And Stuttgart did indeed have to withstand a scare 10 minutes from the end, when [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/gruda-brajan/4EjPxBOf/"]Brajan Gruda[/a]’s flicked header found [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/bakayoko-johan/KGxRmpyH/"]Johan Bakayoko[/a] from six yards out, though it came too quickly to the Belgian to be anything more than a half-chance.[/p][p]Aside from Orban’s glancing header hitting the post in the third minute of injury time, Stuttgart ultimately held on with little drama from there, and in addition to creating a significant cushion from Leipzig in the Bundesliga’s top four, the Swabians have now bettered their win tally of the 2024/25 Bundesliga.[/p][p]They also proudly stand unbeaten in six league games immediately following UEFA Europa League action (W5, D1), while Leipzig remain without successive away league wins since September 2025.[/p][p]Flashscore Man of the Match: [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/nubel-alexander/Igk6vzlT/"]Alexander Nubel[/a] (Stuttgart)[/p][image alt="The top of the Bundesliga after 26 rounds" id="f357fab7-33be-42df-a227-e96f43c4cedd" credit-line="Flashscore" guid="e00069a4-dde2-4bdf-8978-edbe0f9ae4c0" original-width="1200" original-height="1200" /][p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/soccer/rb-leipzig-KbS1suSm/stuttgart-nJQmYp1B/summary/stats/?mid=xKhKjXaf"]Catch up on the stats with Flashscore.[/a][/p]
