Cristian Volpato fined after allegedly driving under cocaine influence

Australian World Cup star Cristian Volpato has been fined after failing a roadside test for cocaine, police and media reports said Wednesday.

[p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/volpato-cristian/2B5YqXFG/"]Volpato[/a] was reported in July to have allegedly tested positive for cocaine after he was pulled over for speeding in Sydney.[/p][p]New South Wales police said on Wednesday that a second sample taken at the time had also tested positive.[/p][p]They said a 22-year-old man - widely identified as [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/italy/hlKvieGH/"]Italy[/a]-based Volpato by local media - was fined AU$722 (€450).[/p][p]His driving licence has also been suspended since July.[/p][p]Volpato, an attacking midfielder for Serie A side [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/sassuolo/QDdvI0zl/"]Sassuolo[/a], made three appearances at the World Cup for the [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/australia/xSrf6qMM/"]Socceroos[/a] after switching his international allegiance from Italy to Australia shortly before the tournament.[/p][p]He was born and raised in Sydney before moving overseas and represented Italy at various youth levels.[/p][embed guid="2fe925de-3f26-4526-8476-ea9d4a3b5547" url="https://x.com/10SportAU/status/2097518744520335860" social-type="twitter" /]
