Why signing West Ham's Crysencio Summerville would be a sensible move for Man Utd

When West Ham were eventually relegated from the Premier League on the final day of the 2025/26 campaign, it was plainly obvious that it wouldn't be long before the vultures began circling for their players.

[p]Whilst some may be content to spend a season in the English second-tier in order to help get the East Londoners back where they belong, some will, not unreasonably, believe that their careers could suffer by spending 12 months in the Championship.[/p]
All change at West Ham under Kretinsky?
[p]Where the [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/west-ham/Cxq57r8g/"]Hammers[/a] themselves are also likely to suffer is financially, firstly because it's believed that David Sullivan has left the club in debt, and secondly because other clubs will perfectly well understand the Irons' need for cash, and so will likely try and buy their players for a bargain price.[/p][p]Whether new major shareholder, Daniel Kretinsky, plays ball with them or digs his heels in to ensure that West Ham don't roll over in the transfer market as they have done in the past, will only be seen across the summer.[/p][embed guid="132877e2-58df-4692-88a6-b05d463577b4" url="https://x.com/WestHam/status/1819814460397109468" social-type="twitter" /][p]Certainly, his opening gambit that the club wouldn't actually have to sell anyone for financial reasons, indicating it would be the players' will only that would see them depart, would've gone down well with supporters.[/p][p]In any event, it appears that Dutch livewire [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/summerville-crysencio/EaRET7t6/"]Crysencio Summerville[/a] could be the first player to leave once the window opens.[/p]
Summerville being chased by Tottenham and Man Utd
[p]The winger, who recently scored his first national team goal at the World Cup in the USA, is being courted by both [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/tottenham/UDg08Ohm/"]Tottenham Hotspur[/a] and [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/manchester-united/ppjDR086/"]Man Utd[/a].[/p][p]The Red Devils, now managed by former Hammer, [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/carrick-michael/phM8NElP/"]Michael Carrick[/a], have reportedly already contacted West Ham and been told that Summerville is available for around the £50 million mark.[/p][embed guid="4ee53204-050c-49d4-91e7-367bc7077d96" url="https://x.com/JacobsBen/status/2066890204569653292" social-type="twitter" /][p]With three years left on his current deal, however, the East Londoners are in a decent enough negotiating position at this point, and could make things difficult for any interested parties.[/p][p]Were either United or Spurs to continue their pursuit of the player regardless, what would they be getting for their money?[/p]
Superb all-round figures
[p]For a start, with seven goals and three assists in all competitions from his wide position, he was only behind [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/bowen-jarrod/pW170H9K/"]Jarrod Bowen[/a]'s totals.[/p][p]His goal contributions were even better than those of centre-forwards [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/wilson-callum/YwKMvtoh/"]Callum Wilson[/a] (7G, 1A) and [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/castellanos-valentin/ET4rsqIP/"]Taty Castellanos[/a] (7G, 0A).[/p][image alt="Crysencio Summervilla pass map -
