Olympique Lyonnais ended Stade Rennais’ four-game winning run in Ligue 1, beating them 4-2 to climb into the top three.

[p]Knowing the winner of the game would assume pole position for a UEFA Champions League (UCL) spot next season, there was an electric atmosphere inside the Groupama Stadium.[/p][p]The home crowd saw their side dominate possession early on, but they were silenced on six minutes by a piece of brilliance from [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/rennes/d2nnj1IE/"]Rennes[/a].[/p][p]There didn’t appear to be much danger when a raking crossfield pass from [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/lepaul-esteban/GGw2OEMr/"]Esteban Lepaul[/a] picked out the run of [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/al-tamari-mousa-suleiman/Y7pbUJA4/"]Musa Al-Taamari[/a], but the Jordanian forward stunned everyone with a sublime first-time volley from the edge of the area, which picked out the far corner.[/p][image alt="Match stats" id="561859d7-3e69-4744-acb6-17f41bb47391" credit-line="Opta by StatsPerform" guid="d3e521fd-b4fb-4f33-802a-959c98ace762" original-width="1080" original-height="1080" /][p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/lyon/2akflumR/"]Lyon[/a] looked to fight back but found themselves increasingly frustrated as a series of crosses and set-pieces refused to land their way in the box, but their patience was rewarded with a dramatic turnaround late in the half.[/p][p]The leveller owed everything to an inswinging cross from [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/tolisso-corentin/hQOIoFOs/"]Corentin Tolisso[/a], as the pace and shape on the ball meant that [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/yaremchuk-roman/vuhK9J78/"]Roman Yaremchuk[/a] simply had to guide it past [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/samba-brice/6L93gfZq/"]Brice Samba[/a].[/p][p]The comeback was completed minutes later when Al-Taamari barged [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/moreira-afonso/OQmjjuCG/"]Afonso Moreira[/a] over in the box, and Tolisso stepped up to smack the resultant penalty into the corner.[/p][embed guid="638e63d1-0edb-4a5f-8474-e865e37d5db1" url="https://x.com/Ligue1_ENG/status/2051021745134404082" social-type="twitter" /][p]The hosts carried that lead into the break, but it didn’t last long after the restart as they were undone by the same Rennes combination again.[/p][p]This time, Al-Taamari played the role of provider, with a clever cutback which was tucked home with the aid of a deflection by Lepaul for his 19th Ligue 1 strike of the campaign.[/p][embed guid="500bb870-3d49-4225-921c-b47a6c78eec1" url="https://x.com/Ligue1_ENG/status/2051029357158609130" social-type="twitter" /][p]Yet again, Lyon refused to be shaken and retook the lead on 52 minutes. A sublime through ball from [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/abner-vinicius/fcH6s6Fc/"]Abner[/a] was perfectly placed for a first-time finish from Moreira, who netted for the second time in three appearances.[/p][p]The visitors made a couple of changes with 20 minutes to go and looked like they were gearing up to push for another equaliser, but they were caught out by a crucial fourth Lyon goal.[/p][p]The home side had seen success all night thanks to their ferocious press in the final third, and reaped the rewards again when Tolisso picked out [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/endrick/bXHrpEJ4/"]Endrick[/a] and the [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/real-madrid/W8mj7MDD/"]Real Madrid[/a] loanee ruthlessly slammed the ball high into the net.
