Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay was open to the idea of the team possibly bringing in veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins as a backup when he talked with reporters on Monday.

[p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/cousins-kirk/lAwzTD0t/"]Cousins[/a] will turn 38 in August, just ahead of his 17th season in the NFL, should he decide to play. The veteran is coming off back-to-back lackluster seasons with the [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/atlanta-falcons/hClIiQIR/"]Atlanta Falcons[/a]. In 2024, Cousins led the league with 16 interceptions and eventually lost the starting role to [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/penix-michael/b1SleSPm/"]Michael Penix Jr[/a]. [/p][p]He filled in for Penix last season after the starter got hurt, putting up decent numbers in 10 games (eight starts) with 10 touchdowns, five interceptions, 1,721 passing yards, and a low 84.8 passer rating. [/p][p]McVay was the offensive coordinator for the then-[a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/washington-commanders/pYobX5Ul/"]Washington Redskins[/a] when Cousins was their quarterback. The two worked together for five years in Washington before McVay was hired by the [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/los-angeles-rams/z7hZioyR/"]Rams[/a]. In that time, Cousins led the NFL with a 69.8 completion percentage in his first full season (2015) and was elected to the Pro Bowl for the first time a year later. [/p][embed guid="192f5ddb-af94-4e34-b9f0-bc96209b809f" url="https://x.com/ESPNNFL/status/2038725735729299944?s=20" social-type="twitter" /][p]Under McVay, Cousins threw for over 4,000 yards and at least 25 touchdowns in each of his three seasons as a starter in Washington.[/p][p]Los Angeles is still looking for a backup, with the possibility of still bringing back [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/garoppolo-jimmy/tED8YY1i/"]Jimmy Garoppolo[/a] to fulfill the role again of sitting behind reigning NFL MVP [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/stafford-matthew/vo7fkASl/"]Matthew Stafford[/a].[/p][p]"Kirk is as influential as anybody in helping me get to L.A. in the first place," said McVay at the league meetings in Phoenix. "I know he's got some other options and some other suitors, but Jimmy and Kirk are guys that I would love to be able to have back with us."[/p][embed guid="b0ce8bb7-0b7a-48a9-a5da-9e4549d483e6" url="https://x.com/ProFootballTalk/status/2038636282914758905?s=20" social-type="twitter" /]
