Sweden's Andre Goransson and his new partner Evan King of the United States secured a straight-sets win in the First Round of the Men's Doubles at the 2026 French Open, beating the Brazilian duo of Orlando Luz and Rafael Matos 7-6, 6-3.

[p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/goransson-andre/bkGRha3F/"]Goransson[/a] had never made it past the Second Round at Roland Garros, but his chances were bolstered by teaming up with [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/king-evan/vwjbTFaf/"]King[/a], a semi-finalist in this event last year. [/p][p]But 16th seeds [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/luz-orlando/vTTQuqa9/"]Luz[/a] and [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/matos-rafael/nokgCiD2/"]Matos[/a] were sure to provide tough opposition, and so they proved by breaking Goransson's serve in the second game on their way to taking a 3-0 first-set lead. However, a string of unforced errors from Matos when serving in game seven allowed the unseeded pair to break back.[/p][p]The next five games went with serve, sending the opening set to a tiebreak - a backhand winner from the Swede against serve meant first blood went to him and King at 3-2, only for an unforced error to see the Brazilians save set point.[/p][p]The Rang man redeemed himself soon after with a backhand winner off Luz's serve to win the tiebreak 9-7 and the first set 7-6.[/p][p]The Swedish-American pair then made the ideal start to the second set, winning their service game before King's forehand winner won a 12-shot rally that meant they broke Luz's serve again and were 2-0 up.[/p][p]No let up from either side of the court over the next six games meant Goransson was serving for the match in game nine, and despite some pressure from their opponents, he and King held to win [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/tennis/luz-o-vTTQuqa9/matos-r-nokgCiD2/?mid=8vh3LQXp"]the match 7-6, 6-3[/a] and advance to the Second Round.[/p][p]There, they will face [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/hidalgo-diego/EmIGQw12/"]Diego Hidalgo[/a] of Ecuador and [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/trhac-patrik/fP6WABo4/"]Patrik Trhac[/a] of the USA, but before that, Goransson will be on court again tomorrow (Thursday 28th), where he and Australia's [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/routliffe-erin/CvDr9J3L/"]Erin Routliffe[/a] begin their Mixed Doubles campaign against [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/arevalo-marcelo/zLNFemL9/"]Marcelo Arevalo[/a] and [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/stefani-luisa/0K1SsbQq/"]Luisa Stefani[/a].[/p][p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/tennis/atp-doubles/french-open/"]Follow the 2026 French Open on Flashscore.[/a][/p]
