Fans clashed on the pitch after Celtic knocked arch rivals Rangers out of the Scottish Cup at Ibrox on Sunday.

[p]Fighting broke out when dozens of [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/celtic/QFKRRD8M/"]Celtic[/a] supporters invaded the pitch to celebrate their quarter-final victory.[/p][p]That sparked an incursion from hundreds of [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/rangers/8vAWQXNS/"]Rangers[/a] fans, who attempted to attack their Old Firm rivals.[/p][p]Missiles and pyrotechnics were thrown before police and stewards finally formed a barrier across the pitch.[/p][p]Fans continued to trade insults from either side of the barrier before order was restored.[/p][embed guid="615a1e54-7f9d-452e-a4f1-e7df721ed172" url="https://x.com/PremSportsTV/status/2030674595267727740?s=20" social-type="twitter" /][p]The ugly scenes came in the first Old Firm derby for almost a decade to feature a large allocation of tickets for away fans.[/p][p]Following numerous hooligan clashes in previous meetings between the Glasgow rivals, away supporters were banned from the matches in 2023, before being allowed to return on a reduced basis last year.[/p][p]The Scottish Cup tie was seen as a test case for the return of bigger numbers of away fans, but that plan is unlikely to proceed after the clashes at Ibrox.[/p][p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/soccer/celtic-QFKRRD8M/rangers-8vAWQXNS/?mid=EDbAVivR"]Celtic won 4-2 on penalties following a 0-0 draw after extra time.[/a][/p][p]Martin O'Neill's side moved into the semi-finals despite failing to register a single shot on target in 120 minutes.[/p][p]In the shoot-out, Rangers captain [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/tavernier-james/jqdidllM/"]James Tavernier[/a] hit the bar with the first penalty before [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/gassama-djeidi/CrOqdcNj/"]Djeidi Gassama[/a] blazed over.[/p][p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/cvancara-tomas/zgMpZZSc/"]Tomas Cvancara[/a] converted to seal Celtic's victory before chaos reigned.[/p][embed guid="d6a64895-c967-410a-8792-2532efa2a184" url="https://x.com/ScottishCup/status/2030671467302535563?s=20" social-type="twitter" /][p]Despite amassing 24 shots and having a goal wiped out by VAR following a handball by [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/fernandez-emmanuel/KWRglvco/"]Emmanuel Fernandez[/a] in extra-time, Rangers once again stumbled against their hated neighbours.[/p][p]The defeat was a bitter blow after Rangers blew a two-goal half-time lead in their 2-2 draw with Celtic in the Scottish Premiership at Ibrox last weekend.[/p][p]Rangers and Celtic both trail leaders [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/hearts/0rGrwwNc/"]Hearts[/a] in the Scottish title race.[/p]
