Austrian side SV Ried have extended the contract of South African winger Antonio van Wyk, who was reportedly a target for Mamelodi Sundowns.

[p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/van-wyk-antonio/tWTuRUTd/"]Van Wyk[/a], 23, has signed a new deal to keep him in Austria until the end of the 2026/27 season, ending any suggestion, for now, that he would sign for [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/mamelodi-sundowns/lxZ6Bzh6/"]Sundowns[/a] in the next transfer window.[/p][p]It is reward for some fine form this season that has seen him score three goals and provide four assists in 23 appearances (20 starts) for [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/ried/6c17idcf/"]Ried[/a] this season. [/p][p]“Our number 29 will remain in the Innviertel region for the 2026/27 season,” Ried said in a statement. “SV Oberbank Ried has exercised its option to extend the 23-year-old’s contract until the end of the 2027 season."[/p][embed guid="fa3cc0c1-edf7-47cd-a978-2cc147b72bcc" url="https://x.com/svried1912/status/2029860039935017068?s=20" social-type="twitter" /][p]Wolfgang Fiala, Sporting Director at SV Oberbank Ried, said there had been plenty of interest in the player.[/p][p]“Over the past 18 months, and especially during our time in the Bundesliga, Antonio has developed into an absolute game-changer,” Fiala said.[/p][p]“He has adapted well to European football and demonstrates his qualities on the pitch week after week. As a result, there was already a lot of interest in him during the winter transfer window. For us, this move was therefore a logical step.”[/p][p]Van Wyk joined Ried at the start of the 2024/25 season from boyhood side [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/stellenbosch-fc/fJsWcA5b/"]Stellenbosch FC[/a], where he had spent four seasons in the first team. [/p][p]He is not the only South African at the Austrian club, former [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/kaizer-chiefs/fFZ2CGx0/"]Kaizer Chiefs[/a] midfielder [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/maart-yusuf/EVewF1Tn/"]Yusuf Maart[/a] is also a regular there.  [/p]
