At least 17 injured as car ploughs into crowd after Mexico's win over Czechs

Mexico beat the Czech Republic 3-0 to cap a perfect group campaign, but celebrations were ruined when a car ploughed into fans in the popular tourist resort of ‌Cabo San Lucas.

[p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/mexico/O6iHcNkd/"]Mexico[/a] swept [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/soccer/czech-republic-6LHwBDGU/mexico-O6iHcNkd/?mid=GCoIA5bf"]past the Czech Republic 3-0[/a] to close the group stage with a perfect nine points from nine as they cruised to the Round of 32. [/p][p]Dozens of people had gathered in Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, to celebrate the win as traffic was blocked off.[/p][p]As per [i][b]The Sun[/b][/i], footage shows supporters gathering around a black car in the middle of the road and pressing up against the front bonnet and windows.[/p][p]This car then suddenly accelerated, ramming into crowds before attempting to drive off. The people in the car were arrested at the scene shortly after the incident, as per [i][b]Metro[/b][/i], in what was a terrifying incident which left 17 injured. [/p][embed guid="376e843f-9c19-4ecc-ae55-9aea8f6bb9a9" url="https://x.com/GNocturnaMX/status/2070043526855864806" social-type="twitter" /][h2]Investigation is underway[/h2][p]One person remains in a serious condition, according to reports, as the video circulated online. The Mexican Football Federation released a statement after the night of horrors. [/p][p][b]"The Mexican Football Federation deeply regrets the incident that occurred tonight in Los Cabos during the celebrations by fans of the Mexican National Team’s victory.[/b][/p][p][b]"We express our solidarity with those affected and their families, and wish a speedy recovery to those who were injured. [/b][/p][p][b]"We trust that the relevant authorities will clarify what happened and determine the corresponding responsibilities."[/b][/p][p]Alberto Rentería Santana, the General Secretary of Los Cabos, stated: "Coordination between security authorities is ongoing, and investigations into the incident are underway. [/p][p]"At this moment, our priority is to care for, support and stand by those who have been affected [/p]
